Skipper Trial Verdict

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

"Ryan Skipper's Killer Found Guilty Today, Joseph Bearden, one of the two accused killers of Ryan Skipper, was found guilty of second-degree murder and robbery. On March 15, 2007, Ryan Skipper was stabbed 19 times and left to die on a dirt road in Polk County, Florida. His death is a bloody reminder of the anti-gay hatred faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in our state. Just days ago, a prosecution witness revealed that shortly after the killing, Joseph Bearden, the defendant, said, "He felt he was doing the world a favor by getting rid of one more faggot." The 19 stab wounds that Ryan Skipper suffered are what the FBI calls 'overkill'. That's when the violence in an assault is beyond what would be necessary for a robbery and more than would even be required to take someone's life. Overkill is a key indicator of a hate crime. During his closing statement, State Attorney Castillo said the brutality of Ryan's murder indicated, "hatred, contempt and utter disregard for another human being because he was gay."

Please visit Equality Florida and see how else you could help in Florida.  For a state with such a large gay and lesbian population base in Orlando and a few other counties, we deserve better rights.  We need to stand up for our rights.  If we did, we would have them.

Safari 4 Public Beta

Loves it.  Safari 4.0 pubic beta was released today.  I have only been playing with it for about 20 min.  But I love it a lot.  The first thing you notice is your new "welcome page" that shows your most visited websites.  It loads these websites, and gives you a thumb view of them so you can pick the website you want to visit.  You can remove the websites that do not make sense on your "top sites" page.  For example, on mine the "approve friend requests" page came up from Facebook.  I just wanted the facebook main page in there, and i removed the others.

Also, when you go and look in your history, you can view it in the famous Apple "cover view" where you can cycle through all of the pages you recently visited, and what they look at.  So if you dont remember the URL or title of the page you recently looked at, you can just pull up your cover flow history.

Additionally, Apple is challenging the Google Chrome browser in a "Speed off" for the fastest browser.  Obviously this is still a public beta, so downloads are at your own risk, but I recommend you download it for your Mac or PC and try it out!!

Update: This browser screams.  It is really fast, it reloads my website in like a half of a second!
So, I was totally going to blog about the Oscars acceptance speech by the Milk screenwriter.  However, a Dan Lanini beat me to it, so instead I will link to that blog post and insert the youtube video in case you are the type that doesn't like to read.

The Greatest Place on Earth

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
While I find myself worried about work a lot, every once an a while I get reminded why I work in the greatest place on earth.

Tonight, It was two animation greeters dancing in the Animation courtyard to the "dance party" music.  And I laughed, and said to myself, "this is what we get paid to do."

If you bitch about your jobs at Walt Disney World, you are taking it too seriously. You work for a company that pays you to make our guests happy.  In order to do that, you can be crazy, go all out and have a good time.

It is really hard for me to accept you hating your job when you work for WDW.  You can hate your managers, you can hate your pay rate, but how can you hate your job?

If you do, you need to find that one place, that one thing, at WDW that will remind you why you work here.  Find those two cast members dancing in the Animation courtyard... or the families on the carousel at Magic Kingdom, or the child a cast member just made stop crying.

We work in the worlds largest playground.  Sure there are things wrong with where we work, sure there are bad people. But if you cant find the good in what we do, then you have no heart.  There is nowhere else on earth you can do what we do, and get a way with it.

I am not sure why I felt like writing this. But as soon as I noticed those two cast members tonight, having a great time, I said to myself, I need to write a blog about this.  It was just one of those moments where things hit you.
