Christmas Day

Christmas morning tree

We opened presents this morning. Nothing super duper exciting this year. In fact, it has been a while since my parents have bought exciting gifts. I got:

  • A car charger and wireless transmitter for my iPhone. Its the one I picked out because is specifically said it works with the iPhone 3g. However, the radio transmission on the thing stinks and I have to work on the placement in order to even get a semi-decent signal. Eh, oh well.
  • I got a desperately needed shoe stand thing to house all of our shoes. YAY!
  • A broom
  • Socks
  • Shorts
  • A home tool set (again very much needed)
  • Sims 2 Bon voyage
  • Pajamas
  • Random other small goodies
There was no "one more thing" as Steve Jobs likes to put it. No big suprises. I asked for a Time Capsule, but my mom said no, because she read a bad review of it somewhere. None-the-less I had fun, so thats what's important. :)  Although, I will probably end up buying a Time Capsule on my own now because I need to back up my computers, and being laptops, hooking them up every so often for a backup, doesnt really work well.

iTunes Genius a Genius Move

So every now and then I use Apple's new genius.pngGunius "sidebar" to find new music to listen to.  I am not the kind of person that knows all the bands and artists in the world.  So, I like this feature because I can find a song I like, and it will make recommendations on what else I might like.  And for the most part it does a great job.  Every time I start my little hunts, I end up spending at least $5 to $10 on songs. Which is a lot for someone who used to only buy one song at a time.  It really is a great way for Apple to get people to buy music.

I also love the fast Genius playlists, just because sometimes I am only in a mood to certain music.  All around one of my favorite iTunes features.  I know I am like the last person to blog about this, but I love it so much, and haven't yet, so I decided to.
I never thought I would say this, but I wish Schwarzenegger was our governor right now:,0,4939340.story

iPhone 3G Battery Life

I love my 3G.  But its battery life in recent days has become troublesome.  Now that I am using apps more religiously, I make it through 3/4 of my day (sometimes not even that), and I get a battery at 20% notice.  I haven't had it die on me yet (mostly because I restrict use once I hit 20%), but it is pretty lame.  I really want this case, because it includes a lot of additional power:

Additional battery life provided by Power Slider
    • Standby time: up to 330 hours
    • Audio playback: up to 26 hours
    • Talk time: up to 5 hours on 3G network and 10 hours on 2G network
    • Video playback: up to 7 hours
    • Internet use: up to 5 hours on 3G network and 6 hours on Wi-Fi

It would be amazing with one exception.  It changes the port on the bottom of the iPhone to some other kind of USB port.  Which means, all of my existing iPhone accessories will not work while the case is installed on my iPhone.  So, I can hook it into the wireless transmitter I have in my car to listen to my music while driving (or anything else).  That was the biggest design flaw on their behalf ever.  I am just saying.

In other news, the Apple App store now has over 10,000 applications for your choosing!

I have been contemplating getting back into podcasting.  I was thinking the other night when I was driving home from work that I have a lot of opinions circulating in my head that I would like to get out.  I was thinking a random 10min podcast every once and a while - while I was driving home would be cool.  I would call it something lame like "the ride home."  I just have to find a good app for the iPhone that will work like I want it to... and I have to decide I actually want to do it.

Any thoughts?  I used to podcast when I was in college.  I had about 150 listeners, which isn't bad for little 'ol me.  This was right as podcasting was taking off, and I even got featured on a few popular podcasts at the time.  But, that doesnt mean I am entertaining.  Thats why if I at least just start with like a 10min version I think it would be okay.  But who knows, it probably will never happen
